KONNECT

Konnect was the umbrella name for all Cornerstone activities that involved weekends away (Buckden, Soul Survivor, Firm Foundations) and any community social action work, taking our model and lead from the Noise, founded by Soul Survivor. Konnect sought to connect young people into God and the Church, and also to connect young people into their local community, making a difference for the better.

But the times they are a-changing, as they say. Cornerstone has been pruning back for a while, and so a lot of the weekend-away type events are on the back-burner. We've stuck this bit in here because this is the section for memories, and there are a lot of photo-gallaries from times gone by which we would like to keep around, for nostalgia's sake.

Here is a bit of background to some of the events whose names appear in this section:

Soul Survivor: Begining in 1998, Cornerstone made several yearly summer-trips to the Soul Survivor festival down in Shepton Mallet (and in 2000 in Manchester). Soul Survivor is an opportuntiy for young people to engage in culturally relevant worship, teaching and ministry and also to hang out with each other. Although Cornerstone doesn't currently attend, many of our people still go with their respective churches.

Firm Foundations: Since 1996, Cornerstone have taken the mobile bars to Firm Foundations, the annual festival of the Boys' and Girls' Brigades of England and Wales, over the second Bank Holiday weekend in May. We work long hours providing a full bar service to the 1000 young people who come. All the money raised goes towards maintaining and supporting links with our friends in Kadoma, Zimbabwe. This is something we still do, however, and details of more recent Firm Foundations events can be found via The Bar page.

Buckden Towers: From the year 2000, Cornerstone ran several short trips up the A1(M) to the picturesque venue of Buckden Towers for a weekend away. Always a weekend in September, to launch the new season. These weekends were an opportunity for young people – new and old – to build real relationships. This was facilitated through a mixture of fun, worship, thought-provoking discussion, outdoor activities and late night entertainment.

Noise: In 2003, Cornerstone partnered with 20-20 (an inter-church community of young people in their 20s), to do 'The Noise' on an estate in Stevenage. The Noise is about making a lasting, posative change in local communities. As part of the (free) activities that weekend were a litter-pick, taking bigger rubbish to the tip, a car-wash, and a free BBQ.
